Miss Tahiti Vaimalama Chaves crowned Miss France 2019

Miss Tahiti, Vaimalama Chaves, 24, was elected Miss France 2019 at the grand finale of succeeding Maëva Coucke, from Nord-Pas-de-Calais. The newly crowned winner holds a master’s degree in management as well as qualifications in negotiation and customer relations.
The last Miss Tahiti to win the pageant was Mareva Galanter, in 1999. At the same pageant Mezino was named first - runner-up and Demesnay was adjudged third runner up. Soucramanien and Destour announced fourth and fifth runner ups respectively. Vaimalama defeated 30 other contestants to win the prestigious title.
For the first time since its inception in 1920, Miss France had an all-female judging panel. Vaimalama Chaves was overweight during her childhood, to the point of being called a "monster. The newly crowned winner just could not control her excitement after she was announced the new title holder. “I was a community manager in a weight room, now I'm Miss France," she said with tears in her eyes it is amazing, I am very moved.”
